September 2024 SUMMARY Outlook for individual wood-burning appliances: The French market example Growth and performance of the park, lower consumption and improved air quality Since 1992, the number of individual wood-burning appliances has been rising, with an acceleration over the last 10 years [1]. At the same time, the existing stock of old (pre-2000) wood-burning equipment is the subject of an incentive policy to replace it, through government aid (renovation bonus, energy saving certificate, etc.) and local authority aid (wood fund). These measures, combined with the introduction of better quality dried fuel, have led to a significant reduction in average consumption per appliance, resulting in a more rational use of resources. In addition, individual wood heating has contributed to the reduction in emissions of the finest particles (PM2.5).
