KENMORE QUARTERLY OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE CITY OF KENMORE, WA | WINTER 2021 Our Community’s History: The Red Brick Road from “Kenmore by the Lake” Driving around and through Kenmore, it’s easy to take our paved roads and well-engineered transportation sys- tem for granted. A look into the past shows how roads in this area evolved, modernized, and made our communi- ty what it is today. From the late 1800s until the early 1900s, settlers took a ragged road be- tween Seattle and Bothell, passing through Kenmore. From Eastlake to the north side of Lake Washington, it was a rut-filled and often impassable route, even by horse and wagon. Story continued on page 6.
