Is it possible that the thoughts and actions of one person who has lived on this planet in a time that is only a fraction of a second are significant to his descendants? What kind of impact would a biography on his children and grandchildren? I tried to answer this question even before I began writing this book about my childhood. Shakespeare, in his tragedy the Tempest, tells us: The past is only a prelude.’’ Why prelude? My answer is: for who comes after us. In fact, the knowledge of the past could help us to avoid making mistakes in our own lives My life is just an almost imperceptible moment in the infinite universe. The history of my life on this planet will take less time than half of the days of my life. But, my children, my history is also your history. My grandparents were born in the 19th century; in turn, my grandparents remembered the story of their own grandparents, who were born in the times of Mozart and Napoleon.
