This is the first time a museum has dedicated
an entire exhibition to Jules François Crahay
(1917-1988), a Belgian-born designer who was
prominent in Parisian haute couture for no less
than three decades before fading, unfairly,
into oblivion. Jules François Crahay.
Back in the spotlight retraces the life of
the prodigious fashion designer, from his first
steps as a couturier in Liege in the 1940s
up to his years of fame and glory in Paris,
and to the creation of his eponymous label
in Japan in 1986. In filigree, his long career can
also be read as a history of haute couture,
an illustration of the evolving role of the
couturier and the rise of ready-to-wear.
