Andrew Gunderson has spent two years running from grief. This time, he runs into the desert.
Grief brought Chandra Fenimore to northern Mexico, where a summer teaching at a small mission school offers a chance to find purpose again after the loss of her parents. There she meets Andrew, the construction manager overseeing the mission's building projects, whose anger and impatience keep everyone at a distance.
For Andrew, anger is easier than grief. Work is safer than hope. And trusting God feels impossible.
Chandra recognizes something beneath his hostility that others miss: pain that looks painfully familiar. But when an accident at the mission site tears open the past Andrew has spent two years trying to bury, he does what he has always done.
