Most folding treadmills are built for a 180-lb user who walks twice a week.
If you're over 300 lbs, the spec sheet is working against you — and the number that matters most isn't the weight capacity.
The physics first: running puts 2 - 3× your body weight through the deck with every stride. At 300 lbs, that's up to 900 lbs of force, thousands of times per session. A weight rating is tested once. At rest.
So the rule is headroom, not capacity:
???? 50 lbs above body weight for walking
???? 100 lbs above if you run
And these four specs decide whether a folding machine survives you:
⚙️ Motor — 3.5 CHP floor, 4.0+ for runners
???? Rollers — 2.36" minimum, 3" ideal (nobody checks this)
???? Deck/belt — 22" × 60", two-ply belt
???? Folding — gas-assist or hydraulic, never hinge-and-pin
Six folding machines currently hold up at 350–400 lbs. Two of them reach the full 400.
