Zakho, Beyond Borders is a deeply human novel inspired by a humanitarian mission in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Through the eyes of an international aid worker travelling from Erbil to Duhok and onward to Zakho, the story enters refugee camps, communities hosting displaced families, coordination meetings, clinics, schools, warehouses and relief distributions shaped by uncertainty and constant movement.
As the narrator encounters refugees, internally displaced people, local authorities, humanitarian colleagues and host families, he discovers that assistance is never only about delivering supplies. It is also about listening, protecting dignity, confronting exclusion and building trust between people separated by conflict, language, status and borders. Through memorable characters such as Rojin, Youssef, Mariam, Lina and Baran, the novel explores exile, identity, solidarity, vulnerability and the quiet courage required to rebuild life after displacement.
