Clinical laboratories process large volumes of sample test tubes during routine diagnostics. Traditional sample registration and tracking methods rely heavily on human interaction, making them inefficient and error-prone.
This thesis presents a Cyber-Physical Laboratory Information Management System that automates the digital registration and tracking of biomedical samples within a clinical laboratory.
Samples are identified using RFID-labelled test tubes and containers. RFID readers distributed across the laboratory track sample status and movement between workstations. Data is transmitted via XBee wireless communication to Intel Edison Computer-on-Modules, which manage operations across a distributed database hosted on local and remote servers, providing redundancy and failover protection.
