TOURISM AND HOTEL TECHNOLOGIES ROBOTS 1. Description The International Organization for Standardization defines a robot as a “programmed actuated mechanism with a degree of autonomy to perform locomotion, manipulation or positioning”88. Robots are mechanisms, i.e. they have physical embodiment in contrast to the chatbots that exist only in the virtual space. They also have some degree of autonomy meaning that they have the “ability to perform intended tasks based on current state and sensing, without human intervention”89. Therefore, a robot can independently move around the premises of a hotel or interact with a guest without the need of constant supervision by the staff. From a technical perspective, robots use sensors to receive data about their surrounding environment such as sensors for identification of objects, distance, location, voice and sounds, temperature, pressure, power consumption, etc.90 Robots’ motors and wheels help them move around the premises of hospitality compani
