Quito is moving toward a more connected future. This Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the local government announced that the extension of the capital’s underground transport system is officially a "go." The project aims to build several additional kilometers of track to reach the northern sectors of the city, which have been historically underserved by heavy transit. This expansion is a direct response to the growing population in the north, where thousands of citizens currently spend over an hour commuting to the city center every day.
