CIRCUS AND PLAY : THE CULTURAL ENGINE MABEL TANG TIEN ONN THE ESSAY FILM This project proposes Circus and Play: Leeds Cultural Engine, a hybrid cultural residential model situated on the former Leeds Yorkshire Bank site, a location historically associated with civic trust, public exchange, and urban livelihood. THE INTERVENTION Regenerating this historic landmark as a cultural engine, the proposal interrogates how architecture can be repurposed and re activated as central urban fabric through community centred living and the performance of circus and play. THE TRAINING Daily training for students and troupes; flexible open floor plan setups, Dedicated rehearsal spaces for choreographic development and improv, large mirror and training sets. THE STUDENT HOME Anchored in the interrelations between human activity, habitation, and materiality, the project foregrounds multi sensory environments shaped by student living and everyday life in Leeds.
