Chapter 13 – Villa till I die The city of Birmingham has two football teams that have historically played in the football leagues at the highest level (top 3 divisions, including the modern day Premiership and Championship). These are Birmingham City and Aston Villa. The West Midlands county also has three teams considered to be located in the Black Country, which are West Bromwich Albion, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Walsall, and one team based in Coventry (Coventry City). I think it is fair to say that the West Midlands teams have collectively struggled to compete for national or international trophies and success with the top teams from Lancashire (Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool) or from London (Arsenal and Chelsea) but have generally competed and achieved well against most other top teams around the country, especially Villa, Wolves and Albion.
