THE LOVE KILL Character Breakdown & Setting Notes for a feature drama. GENERAL CONCEPT A chamber-period psychological thriller set over the course of a single evening in Saint Petersburg, 1893. Eight former classmates of composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky gather in the library of Senator Nikolay Borisovich Jacobi under the pretence of an alumni reunion. Beneath the civility of candles, vodka, and old memories lies a horrifying purpose: to persuade the composer to choose death in order to save the reputation of those gathered, and perhaps even the stability of Imperial Russia. The story unfolds almost entirely in one room, becoming less a historical reconstruction than a ritualized moral autopsy of an empire, a generation, and a group of men trapped between love, fear, hypocrisy, ambition, loyalty, and survival. Tonally, the work moves between psychological realism, dark chamber drama, political thriller, absurd black comedy, and near-expressionistic nightmare.
