The encounter with brutal atrocities created an assault on both emotional and cognitive faculties, leaving many with the feeling that everyday language is insufficient to express the magnitude of the event. The trauma imposed silence on many, and everyday language has failed. The expressions “I have no words,” “good morning,” and “how are you” became loaded with painful meanings.
