It is a story about the LGBTQ community in a Muslim country. They suffer a daily pogrom for the mere reason that they are sexually different. Within the walls of the homophobic Medina, they live an ostrasizing existence. Outside its walls, His Majesty who is gay himself. provides a retreat for the community in the fictitious Harvey Milk Boulevard. They meet eachother and they feel relief.
There are also many little stories in the book. There is the story of Hafid, an effeminate gay who can't hide his sexuality. There is the story of Haj El Amrani. Because of his sexuality, he was in the psychiatry, and after taking antidepressives, he starts feeling better. He even starts working as a tailor in the palace.
There is also the story of Haj Benslimane whose son Amal is gay. For the mere benefit of the doubt, he gets him married to Nora, a hermaphrodite. There is even a law that protects their rights.
Less
