DELANO | GRACE COOPER d i g i ta l r e s u r r e c t i o n s : v o l u m e t h r e e DESIGNED BY An industrial sans serif typeface, Delano GRACE COOPER emanates the reconstruction of an economy in the 1930s. ONE WEIGHT One of Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s New Deal TWO STYLES policies was the decision to hold a contest in presidential postage stamp design, to be called the “Presidential Series.” The United States postage stamp edition designed by Elaine Rawlinson led to the inspiration for this geometric hand-rendered lettering. Delano is a sans serif typeface that is resurrected from a 1938 Presidential Edition of United States postage stamps. Its stable lines are inspired by the popular Art Deco style of the Great Depression era and organizations such as the Works Progress Administration. Delano encompasses aspects of the culture it was first created in; its form is condensed, with occasional pointed edges accenting its curving corners and straight lines. REGULAR OUTLINE 1
