WRITING AN ESSAY What is an appendix in an essay An appendix is a section found at the end of an academic essay or book that includes additional information that is related to the main text. This section may include historical or statistical information, data tables, maps, photographs, and other relevant information. Depending on the type of essay or book, the appendix may also include interview notes, field notes, or evidence of academic research. Generally, an appendix is not essential to the main text, however, its inclusion may be beneficial in strengthening the argument being made and providing the reader with additional evidence to draw their own conclusions.
