Paper has always been the medium of experimentation for artists. It provides a low-cost means of practising and deploying a wide variety of techniques, using drawing naturally, ink, watercolour, pastel, acrylic or biros. Today, it is increasingly opening up to other fields that go well beyond collage, such as embroidery or the assembly of objects.
Working on paper offers incomparable creative freedom, with no room for repentance. Each line or mark leaves a more personal and indelible imprint. Work on paper offers a direct connection with the artist. If a work on paper has a certain lightness, texture or fragility that makes it unique, it is all the more precious in its rarity and fragility.
