The preprint addresses the problem of delineating permafrost and thawed zones from seismic data using the CubeTechnology processing and interpretation system. The study uses reflected waves recorded in multicoverage seismic surveys.
The processing workflow includes velocity analysis and the construction of time and depth velocity sections. Velocity analysis is performed with allowance for surface topography and ac-quisition geometry. An effective-velocity section is constructed from automatically tracked ve-locity functions, followed by two-dimensional median smoothing, after which the time section is calculated.
At the next stage, depth sections of effective, interval, and average velocities are calculated from the time-domain effective-velocity section. Interval velocities are determined using the Dix equation. The selected 30-ms time interval is comparable to the dominant period of the seismic signal, providing enhanced vertical resolution of the interval-velocity section.
