FREE RiverTALK AU G U S T 1 8 , 2 0 2 3 | Vo l u m e 1 4 , No. 0 8 Helicopter crash Four people and a service dog were in this helicopter when it crashed into the Shuswap River in the area of Hupel, about 30 kms east of Enderby, on the evening of Aug. 12. Witnesses say the chopper was spinning out of control before hitting the water. Local residents jumped into action, pulling people from the wreckage and providing first aid before emergency responders arrived. Multiple ambulances and two Enderby & District Fire Department rescue trucks attended the scene, where three people were treated and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. One person, believed to be the pilot, left the scene in a vehicle prior to arrival of emergency personnel and remains unaccounted for. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been notified and is assisting.
