CRITERIA BY WHICH WE HAVE CHOSEN THIS SPECIES IN ORDER TO CARRY OUT THE AQUARIUM PROJECT Daphnia is a genus of planktonic crustaceans less tolerant to toxic substances than fish. It is a transparent shell animal, which makes observation of its internal organs easier, especially the heart (counting your heartbeat) and the intestine (the color depends on the power supply). It has been used in numerous studies of tolerance for a long time by different researchers. This provides us with plenty of reliable and comparable data between studies and others, but also with our own. Daphnia magna is the largest in the Daphnidae family. It can reach up to 6 mm in size. The offspring or neonates can be seen with the naked eye. Females have a period of longevity of 26 days at 24-28 ºC, which allows us to observe its entire life cycle. They can be reared in the laboratory, in aquariums and in small containers. When conditions are good, the females release their neonates in the first 10
