CULTIVATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE TESTING ORGANISMS The Daphnia cultures were maintained in the 35l aquarium in order to preserve the optimum conditions for the growth of individuals, with a population that did not exceed 15 individuals per liter. We kept the organisms in the water of their own pond, with a hardness of 180 mg CaCO3/l, at a temperature of 22ºC (thanks to an internal heater), with a photoperiod of 16hlight/8h darkness (controlled by a timer). The cleaning of the aquarium took place on alternate days, removing remains of the botton with a siphon and from the walls with a scraper of algae.
