Institutional Research of Sony Music Sony Music was founded in 1929 when several record companies merged to become one company, the company started up under the name of American Record Corporation it Sony Music went through many different name changes and eventually became Sony Music Entertainment on January 1st 1991. In 2004 Research Sony entered a joint venture with BMG which became Sony BMG. However, in 2008, October 1st, Sony bought out BMG's share of 50% and once again became Sony Music Entertainment as they are known today. Sony music is one of the biggest music and entertainment companies in the world. It has many different artists signed to the label, many which have achieved world wide fame.
