GREECE CAVINO MAVRODAPHNE RESERVE NV PDO Patras 90/100 Quite intense colour here, dark amber, I would say, towards black brown with a slightly green rim. Intense nose. Complex nose. Deliberate oxidation, or a lot of age. With hints of molasses, leather, walnut, dried fruit. Very high intensity. I like the nuttiness, that slight woodiness and that fresh tobacco as well. Very good grip on the palate. Once again there is a high sweetness here. I think the ageing in wood has given more of that tobacco scented, positive dryness, woodiness. Lots of spiciness going on and honeyed fruit with like figs, dates, prunes on the finish. Good length, good intensity. Well I have no clue what it is, but again, I would say a very traditional style. Yet, it feels like it has been made by modern people because the oxidation is within control and there is a good balance and well-defined freshness on the finish.
