Many early fashion magazines mostly appealed to an affluent, aspirational society By the 1870’s, magazines were glamorising clothes + illustrations of women in public places, influencing trends for the readers to draw inspiration from and wear themselves. They commonly reflect a vision of freedom and independence, which is still an appealing factor in today’s publications.
