They both spoke with The Ashfield News in mid-March. Gray, who is 44, began working with his grandfather when he was 12. He now lives in Greenfield and processes syrup with the help of family in Ashfield. “I know people that were tapped in right after Christmas because they saw the projected forecast,” he said. “When I saw the 50-degree days in the first weekend of February, I said, ‘This isn’t going to be good.’ When you do this long enough, you tend to see these patterns.
