Woman In Black opening Woman in black is a thriller/drama that was made in 2012. To make the film a successful thriller the director has used mise en scene, editing, cinematography and sound to which I will be analysing throughout the opening scene. Mise en scene means ‘placed in the scene’ it means to refer to setting, lighting, costume and behaviour of the actors on stage. The director uses Mise en scene to guide the audience. In the opening scene mise en scene is used to guide or manipulate how the audience responds to the film. Everything we see in a film is mise en scene but to make it easier the term can be split into different areas. The setting that the opening of women in black is established in is a child's bedroom which is the last place the audience would expect a horror film to be placed in. We can tell that the film was set back in 1915 as the décor is very old and the children are playing with olden day toys like tea sets and china dolls. Obviously the bedroom is a child
