« The Ultimate Confrontation: The Flower and the Bayonet » This picture was shot by a french photographer widely recognized for his extensive reports on the Far East, Marc Riboud. It was taken in 1967, during a demonstration against the war in Vietnam, in Washington. It shows a young american high school student, Jane Rose Kasmir, who is trying to put a flower on a rifle's soldier just in front of her. Indeed, at the age of seventeen, Kasmir was taking part in the National Mobilization Committee to end the war in Vietnam. This image was published worldwide and became known as a symbol for the "flower power" movement. It also a symbol of peace and courage classed as a historical photograph. In addition to being a symbol, this photography contributed, indirectly, to stop the war in Vietnam. I chose this picture because, according to me, it represent the courage that can have some people facing stronger things, but also the choice to do something despite the fact to don't have any power.
