Flower Power, Bernie Boston, 1967 Bernard Norman Boston (1933-2008), known as Bernie Boston, was an american photojournalist. He worked for the Dayton Daily News, the Washington Star and the Los Angeles Times. From 1965, he supported the USA presidents during their mandate. He became famous thanks to this picture, called Flower Power, shot on the 22nd of october in 1967 in Washington, during a pacifist demonstration against Vietnam war. The picture represent a demonstrator who glides a flower into a soldier’s rifle. It became the symbol of pacifism, this photo got the second place at the Pulitzer price in 1967. The man with the flowers was later identified as a teenage actor, George Harris. He was making a nonviolent gesture against the soldiers, who were braced for trouble as they faced 250,000 demonstrators protesting the Vietnam War.
