CANNETÉ SALONE INTERNAZIONALE DEL MOBILE 2019 EMBLEM OF A TIMELESS STYLE The term “Canneté” signifies a particular decorative technique that is characterised by a series of narrow repetitive grooves, created by means of different production processes and the use of specifically chosen material combinations. Both in artisan tradition and the furniture sector, the description of “Canneté” (“Ribbed”) is commonly yet mistakenly used to indicate wickerwork, in other words, the weaving of slim strips of vegetable fibre (usually palm) to form the body or back of certain types of chairs or sofas to give the items an extremely light and functional aspect. During the 1930s and 1940s, “Canneté” style fluting became one of the signature themes of Art Déco where the repetition of abstract and linear geometric forms was skilfully combined with softer lines and decorative flourishes to create a fresh and innovative style that was to conquer and characterise the design world for more than a decade. ww
