The Roots of Jazz Baltimore January 27 2011 2011 This book and exhibit is a commemoration of the lush musical heritage of Baltimores movers, shakers and music makers, beginning with Ragtime, the first African American music to be crowned with commercial success in turn of the century segregated America, and culminating with Jazz Rock Fusion, a grouping of musicians, both black and white, with great worldwide attraction. Each section is dedicated to the proliferation of Jazz in the historic musical incubator of Baltimore City from its emergence in the late 1800s through the early 21st century, examined in a broad view of African American history in Maryland.
