Lakeview Hears the Call to Serve on K 10 Day By: Mark Uddo On August 29, 2015, while we solemnly remembered the storm and its aftermath that occurred 10 years ago, 10,000 citizens of New Orleans followed Mayor Landrieu’s call to serve their communities. Lakeview residents heard that call loud and clear; and nearly 500 participated in community service and remembrance activities! The day began with our annual wreath laying ceremony beautifully orchestrated by Nancy Lytle. Members of the NOPD, first responders, school staffs, and clergy marked the occasion with prayers, tributes, and poignant words spoken to honor our neighbors lost, and those who have returned to rebuild and restore our community. Then it was off to the races! The first annual 5 K Run for Recovery engaged over 300 runners, walkers, strollers, wagons, pets, people, families and friends who ran, walked, and strolled through New Basin Canal Park.
