AFFIXATION We add prefixes and suffixes to an already existng word. Divided into two processes: 1- Derivation: produces a new word. The different derivational suffixes gives us a different word class or a different meaning of the same word class. 2- Inflection: Process by which affixes combine with roots to indicate the basic grammatical categories such as tense or plurality. English has no inflectional prefixes. ABBREVIATION Shortened form of a word or phrase standing for the whole.
