Have you seen a rare or unusual bird? Mona Loofs-Samorzewski If you have, please send a submission to the BirdLife Tasmania Records Assessment Committee (BTRAC). This com- mittee was set up in December 2023 to assess sightings of bird species that are particularly rare, unusual, uncom- mon or are vagrant visitors to Tasmania. It is important that such sightings are recorded and substantiated, so that we have an accurate record of all bird species seen in our State. Birds may change their migration routes, habits, local movements and long-term distribution due to changes in climate, ocean currents, short-term weather patterns, landscapes and ecologies. Keeping track of such sightings. is interesting to bird watchers in general and may contribute to the conservation of the bird species in Tasmania. BTRAC keeps a review list of which rare birds are dealt with by the committee, and refers submissions for bird spe- cies that are rare for Australia (and seen in Tasmania) to the BirdLife Aust
