Penguins from Across the Ditch Warren Jones Kerrie Brown entered a Birdata record for an injured Fiordland Penguin found at Eaglehawk Neck on 8 July. The bird was not in good shape so was captured by PWS officers and taken to Bonorong Wildlife Sancturary. Although there were no apparent neurological symptoms, the officers used appropriate personal protective equipment and all nec- essary precautions against bird flu. At Bonorong the penguin’s injuries were assessed and, unfortunately, the dam- age to one of the feet was so severe that the bird would not survive in the wild and was euthanised. When following up on this record, it transpired that there were three other reports of Fiordland Penguins sent to Bonorong in July. One of these, at White Beach on 16 July, also had severe damage to one of its feet, while another at Bicheno on 18 July appeared unsteady and was referred to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline.
