BirdLife Tasmania Outing reports South: Waterworks Reserve 23rd August, 2026 Paul Brooks Ten eager bird enthusiasts converged on the Waterworks Reserve expecting a fine morning but were met at the lower dam wall with a freezing wind rushing down off Bird List the mountain. We spotted the usual denizens of the lower reservoir: Australian (E=endemic, H=heard only) Wood Duck, Eurasian Coot, Little Pied Cormorant, Hoary-headed Grebe, and Aus- Australian Wood Duck tralasian Grebe, but we didn’t hang around, as the wind was strong enough to blow Pacific Black Duck the scope over! The track around the reservoir was sheltered from the wind and Grey Teal we had a good look at a Bennetts Wallaby resting on the lawn, before heading into Common Bronzewing Tawny Frogmouth the forest. It wasn’t long before we had Grey Fantail, Tasmanian Thornbill, and Sil- Tasmanian Native-hen E vereye flitting around us in the middle storey and we could hear Spotted Pardalote Eurasian Coot and Crescent Honeyeater i
