South Arm – Pitt Water KBA Report (June 2026) Mike Newman In general, the status of the shorebird populations and the condition of the estuary are consistent with previous annual reports. This report highlights some important advocacy actions and emerging concerns regarding the condition of the KBA and threats. Monitoring Continued consistent with previous years: 1. Coordinated summer and winter counts were conducted (organised by the AWSG). 2. Additional counts were conducted throughout the year at Lauderdale, Pipeclay Lagoon and Orielton Lagoon by Tim Reid and monthly at Lauderdale by Mike Newman. They provide comprehensive information on three of the five most important count areas. Advocacy I met with Ellie Green of the Derwent Estuary Program to discuss our monitoring efforts and made a field trip to Lauderdale to explain the monitoring protocol used at that location.
