Risks and benefits of Resistance Training 1 Resistance training is “any physical activity or exercise that uses the force of a muscle against some form of resistance to build muscle strength, endurance and size” (Phillip, 2012). Youth participating in resistance training has not always been encouraged, scientific studies have shown positive results, however there are still several speculations that there are more risks than benefits. Risks of resistance training are generally those caused by; inappropriate training techniques, excessive loading, poorly designed equipment, or lack of qualified adult supervision (Faigenbaum Kraemer, W. J., Blimkie, C. J., Jefreys, I., Micheli, L. J., Nitka, M., & Rowland, T. W., 2009).
