The smile on Michael Johnson’s face seemed to be painted on
Thursday night as Glynn County’s business community enjoyed
the spaciously renovated lobby at The King and Prince Beach &
Golf Resort he manages.
Gone is the gift shop that
clogged valuable event space
outside the ballrooms. Gone is
the indoor pool that took up a
large portion of what is now a
comfortable seating area around
a large fireplace. Gone is the
snack bar and many of the large
potted plants that once obstructed the view of the ocean on the
other side of the two-story windows at the back of the lobby.
All have been replaced by a new modern vision for the airy
atrium of the historic hotel that Johnson is hopeful will become
a staple for locals and St. Simons Island visitors alike.
“We wanted to bring the Glynn County community back to
the beach,” Johnson told the crowd when it gathered in the Delegal Room for door prizes and raffle giveaways.
