As a daily commuter on his bike to his job at Monkeywrench Bicycles on St. Simons Island, Jared Raiford has learned how important it is to remain aware
of the cars traveling at around 35 mph just a few feet
away from him.
He rarely leaves the confines of the bike paths that
weave their way around the island, but that does not
mean danger has been eliminated, especially where
roads intersect the path.
“On the bike path, you really have to watch out at
all the intersections,” Raiford said.
While he has never been hit by a car, thanks to his
heightened awareness, Raiford has heard of others
who were less fortunate and may not have been paying as close attention.
