Aspurpleshirts,pinkribbons,spacesuitsandglowingalien-eyeheadbands
dotted the fields of the Brunswick Exchange Fairgrounds, friends, families
and community members gathered
together in solemn remembrance and
hope as the American Cancer Society
kicked off its 20th Annual Relay For
Life of Glynn County titled, “Space:
2014 — A Relay Odyssey” on Friday in honor of those who have been
touched by cancer.
And as it’s theme promised, the
walk-a-thon blasted off into the
breezy night with good laughs, hipshaking entertainment and several
family-oriented games and activities,
all with one mission in mind: To fight
the battle against cancer and inspire
others to join and help end the disease
once and for all.
It’s the reason Brunswick residents
Mitch and Jeri Sweeney continue to
come out for the event. Jeri Sweeney
lost her brother, Todd Ricks, to lung
cancer in 2001 and for 25 years, she
has come out to show other cancer
survivors support and to honor her
brother’s legacy.
