Fatima Desamito woke up at 4 a.m. Tuesday to
make the trip from her home in Augusta to Brunswick.
When she embarked on the three-hour drive, the
22-year-old nursing student was a citizen of the
Philippines. She went back a citizen of the United
States.
Desamito was one of eight people naturalized as
U.S. citizens in U.S. District Court in Brunswick.

Wood said the ceremony is always the most joyous
day of the year in her courtroom.
It certainly was joyous for Desamito and her fellow naturalized citizens.
“It’s been a good day,” Desamito said, at a reception following the ceremony. “We’ve been here
