Mike Browning couldn’t believe the
news he heard when he woke up Monday
morning.
Mickey Rooney, a staple in the entertainment industry for decades, passed
away Sunday at the age of 93 in his North
Hollywood home.
Rooney was one of the Glynn County
Commission chairman’s favorite actors in
Hollywood as a child.
“I just loved him to death,” said Browning in a phone interview. “Mickey was just
one of those great guys from Hollywood
who’s movies you just loved.”
Rooney, born Joe Yule Jr. in 1920, already had 30 years of acting experience
when Browning was born in the early
1950s. Browning, 63, didn’t get a chance
to watch Rooney in his heyday playing
the teenage character Andy Hardy, the
role that turned Rooney into a superstar
between the years 1937 to 1958.
Browning’s fondest childhood memories are of Rooney making TV appearances on talk shows.
