As the deadline to complete the new
Glynn County Detention Center approaches, some county commissioners
are growing frustrated with costly lastminute tweaks to the project.
The Glynn County Commission’s finance committee Tuesday signed off on
the 26th change order for the detention
center project, a proposal that included
13 separate adjustments at an initial cost
of $50,000. Another $200,000 request
to award bids for furniture and cubicles
for the project was also begrudgingly
approved.
All actions by the finance committee
must be approved by the full commission.
Finance Committee Chairwoman
Mary Hunt took issue with the change
order submitted by the project’s architect, Valdosta-based IPG Inc., because
she said IPG is asking the county to
fund its own mistakes.
“I guess I’m getting a little irritated,”
Hunt said at the close of the finance
committee’s meeting. “This is such
