WOODBINE — State Rep. Jason Spencer, R-Woodbine, says legislation that
would extend the statute of limitations for
victims to take civil action in childhood
sexual abuse cases failed to clear the Georgia House of Representatives Monday, but
that’s OK.
He says he will take an alternate route
to passage.
Spencer said the legislation, which he is
sponsoring, never got through the flood of
bills introduced at the last
minute Monday, which
was crossover day in the
Georgia General Assembly.
“Itgotstuckinthecrossover mayhem,” he said.
Crossover day is the last
day for a measure introduced in one chamber of
the General Assembly to be acted on and
cross over to the other chamber.
Spencer said Sen. Renee Unterman, RBuford, chair of the Health and Human
Services Committee, supports the bill and
wields the influence to attach it to legislation in the Senate.
“There are other legislative tactics to get
the bill passed,” he said. “She realizes the
importance of the bill.”
