An Amazingly Simple Clipping Path Tutorial with a Step by Step Workflow
The complexity of the task depends on your image. While it may be easier to extract the image of a red
apple from a green background using the magic wand tool in Photoshop, isolating complex foreground
elements in an image can be much more difficult.
Here is a step by step workflow that will work for most photographs:
1. Open the image that you want to use for your clipping path project in Photoshop.
2. Choose the Pen Tool from the tool box. Click “P” on the keyboard to select the pen tool. It is
good to know a few Photoshop shortcuts to increase the pace of your work.
3. Draw a path around the element that you wish to cut out.
4. Once you have created a closed path, hold down Command Key on Mac or Control Key on your
PC and click the “path” to create a selection
5. Copy and Paste the selection on a new layer. (Simply select the background layer in the layer
panel, press Ctrl +C and Ctrl +V).
