AAMA 501.6 Seismic Test- Focuses On
Seismic Safety of Glass Mechanism
AAMA 501.6-09 Seismic Test is a dynamic racking
test process that focuses on the seismic safety of
architectural glass mechanism within the systems of
curtain wall and storefront wall. It involves mounting
individuals on fully glazed wall panel samples on an
active racking test apparatus. The anchorage points
at the top move back and forth in sinusoidal motions
at increasingly higher racking amplitudes, as in a
musical crescendo. The anchorage points in the
bottomstay fixed, thus conveying a energetic, in-plane story waft on the test specimen.
At lower racking amplitudes, the dynamic racking frequencies are 0.8 Hz while at higher
racking amplitudes, frequencies are and 0.4 Hz. The extent at which glass fallout is observed
for the first time for a given specimen is called as ‘fallout’for that test specime
