MAINTAINING F-1 STUDENT STATUS As an F-1 student, you were admitted to the U.S. for “duration of status.” This means you are permitted to stay in the U.S. as long as you maintain your status by fulfilling the equirements of being an F-1 student. Below is a list of government regulations you must follow in order to maintain your legal status: Maintain a valid passport and I-20 at all times, unless exempt from passport requirements. Undergraduate and graduate students studying in a traditional program on campus must check in with the International Office before the first day of classes EACH SEMESTER. Graduate students in the education master and doctoral programs and Doctor of Ministry program must check in with the International Office before EACH MODULE. Failure to check in as required will result in loss of your F-1 status.
