He lived at a time – 1929-1968 – when the black people of that region were treated as second class citizens. As a Christian he believed it was his responsibility to take a stand against the evil of racism. Here are some of the ideas which would have influenced him: Key words Prejudice = to think of someone as inferior because they are in different to you, eg. Racism, if they are from a different race or skin colour. Discrimination = to treat someone differently (usually unfairly and to treat them worse) because of your prejudice.
