Miss Newcastle contestants became ‘Rhino
Buddies’ in November, raising almost R5 000 for
the sake of rhinos.
Various spots in Newcastle played host to energetic
groups of Miss Newcastle 2013 contestants who went
car-to-car and person-to-person to raise funding for the
KwaZulu-Natal Rhino Watch. The project incorporated
the Miss Newcastle pageant’s annual ‘1Rander’
fundraiser.
“The duration of the awareness drive and fundraising
will be until the Miss Newcastle pageant on November
23,” said Lions member Christine Harburn previously.
With the models sporting their horns and cheeky
out ts, residents did their part in supporting the effort.
Lions Newcastle treasurer Tracey Harkness said the
nett amount to be banked following the fundraising
project was exactly R4909.75 to bene t the Lawrence
Anthony Earth Organisation, which in turn supports
KZN Rhino Watch.
